The American multinational will allow to accelerate and deepen the digital transformation of the bank
José María CamareroBanco Santander has signed a contract with the US multinational IBM for 700 million dollars (about 619 million euros) for the next five years with the aim of accelerating and deepening its business transformation . The agreement between both entities already existed, although it was renewed annually.
The alliance allows the bank chaired by Ana Botín to generate significant savings in its annual spending on technology and will help it to evolve significantly towards the open, flexible and modern technological environment required by its business strategy.
Santander will thus be able to enrich its services and applications with disruptive IBM technologies in the field of artificial intelligence, 'blockchain', 'big data', as well as take advantage of its security solutions.
This agreement consolidates IBM as one of Santander's main transformation partners. The Cantabrian bank works to evolve its technological architecture towards a hybrid cloud and multicloud environment .
Currently, the entity based in Boadilla del Monte is already using the IBM Watson artificial intelligence platform , for example, to improve the experience of its clients and to provide its office professionals with faster access to specialized knowledge or increase its productivity.
Likewise, to undertake this strategy, Santander created a Cloud Competency Center in which IBM collaborates with the definition of the methodologies and processes necessary to accelerate its transformation. It also uses a set of technologies such as IBM DevOps and IBM API Connect aimed at developing and launching new or updated digital applications and services to the market .
Among other fundamental requirements of Santander's strategy and in which IBM is contributing is the security of its data, applications and services, for which IBM Securities uses.
