The blocking of the State Budgets turns against Torra
The Catalan Generalitat loses the complicity of the commons and it is almost impossible to carry out the regional accounts
The boomerang effect can hit the Catalan government. The day after Esquerra and PDeCAT made a coup de grace to the legislature, knocking down the budgets, the pressure is now transferred to the Catalan Executive, which has yet to approve its accounts for this year. The Generalitat had for it the common ones. But the picture has changed.
Catalunya en Comú, a coalition in which Podemos is integrated, has always defended a change of trading cards: ERC and PDeCAT supported the central government accounts and the common ones did the same with the Generalitat's Budget. "We want to approve them," said the spokesperson for the common in the Catalan Chamber, Jéssica Albiach. The formation of Ada Colau took weeks of negotiations with the economic vice president, Pere Aragonès. The conversations between the alternative left and the republicans went beyond the Catalan accounts and probed future scenarios, such as the governance of the Barcelona City Council or possible pacts for the Parlament. A long time ago, a tripartite left-wing led by ERC flies over Catalan politics.
However, after the veto of the secessionists to the Budget, which runs out the legislature, the commons have decided to leave the table and have given up their negotiations with the Generalitat. The commons, and also the PSC, demand that Torra and Aragonès bring the Accounts to the Catalan Chamber once and subject them to the scrutiny of the majority. Torra can no longer count on the CUP, which has distanced itself from JxCat and Esquerra because it considers that they are practicing a policy of regional court, so the only possible allies that the pro-independence supporters had were the common ones. The pressure is against Quim Torra and also the separatists, who on occasion have come to affirm, in reference to Pedro Sánchez, that without Budgets he would have to call elections.
The president of the Generalitat has been warning that if the defendants in the trial are sentenced with severe penalties, he will go to the Parliament to propose a democratic response based on the right of self-determination of Catalonia. It also threatens to activate the declaration of independence. Last Monday, at the start of the trial, ruled out the electoral advance, but without Budgets and without a majority in the House may not have another option.
